An International Symposium on Storytelling as a Healing Art took place in the countryside of serene, beautiful, Järna, Sweden, between July 11 - 17, 2005. It was the first international symposium on storytelling as a healing art in a non-English speaking country. Through the joint initiative of Inger Lise Oelrich, storyteller and theatre director from Sweden and Nancy Mellon, storyteller and psychotherapist from USA, a group of leading pioneers from UK, Scandinavia, Europe and USA came together to create this first meeting of different disciplines, which all had in common the use of storytelling for health. The symposium had a clear mission, and participants had a choice of workshops as listed in the program. Here are some pictures of the event. Storytellers who participated in the Symposium are offering the following list of events. (coming soon) Allison Cox and others have taken the initiative to publish a book in conjunction with the symposium, gathering the knowledge, experience and exchange that will be distributed to a wider audience. A double publication is planned, one in English and one in Swedish. For more information please see www.dancingleaves.com. |
